Leadership Roles

After chairing a successful region conference, I was asked to chair the Exhibitors Committee of the 2016 National Academic Advising (NACADA) Annual Conference in Atlanta, GA. Nearly 4,000 advisors from all 50 states and various other countries attended the 4 day event.

My responsibilities including being a liaison between the NACADA Executive office and the paid exhibitors. This included supervising the exhibitor check in process and organizing the load out process.

I also assisted in the logistical planning during the site visit seven months prior to the conference. I provided assistance to conference attendees and crowd control when needed.

At the end of the conference, I participated in a planning meeting for the 2017 Conference to offer feedback to the next committee to continue improving the event.

As the Alabama State Liaison for NACADA, I was tasked with improving membership and involvement of advisors from the state of Alabama. Part of the solution was to start a state level organization. Along with the rest of the steering committee, I was able to get the Alabama Academic Advising Association off the ground. Additionally, we met our goal to increase national membership and increase involvement at both the national and regional level.

During this process we were able to build a solid foundation for the leadership to come. We were also able to learn from our constituents from different institutions that may have different requirements, needs, and expectations.

In April of 2015, I had the privilege of co-chairing the NACADA Region IV conference in Auburn, AL. Four hundred advisors from four states plus the Caribbean came for this three day event. I was responsible for the conference budget and oversaw two committees; marketing and program. I also planned an evening event at a local brewery and distillery.
